Taken from a journal written in Finca Esquena on Monday, February 16:
“Let’s go pick haba,” our neighbor’s oldest daughter, Seyda, said the first full day we were in Finca Esquena.
Haba = A ginormous lima bean they grow here. Literally, they grow some of the largest in the world. People come from all over to see [...]

Our House
Posted in Uncategorized on February 26, 2009 | Leave a Comment »
I thought I’d start with the basics of our trip: our house. Yes, that’s right. We stayed in a house while we were there. What luxury! Well, sort of. Trent is always thinking about ways we can make things better out there and that’s really one of the main reasons we’re able to make it [...]
Sick of City Food

You’d think that the one place we would get sick would be out in the middle of nowhere, where people don’t wash their hands very much, where there’s no refrigeration and our vegetables sit out all night, and where we’re not used to eating the type of food they eat in Finca Esquena. But as [...]
We’re Back!

We’re back from our trip out to the community. All went well. No one got sick except for some uneasy stomachs after we had to eat/drink the most disgusting corn drink I’ve ever tasted, which was like drinking sand. Of the three of us, Jack definitely did the best. Thanks for your prayers.

I wanted to give an update on what is going on in Qhochumi. I thought Graham, our team member who recently finished his term, wrote a great blog describing it and decided to just paste his below. Enjoy.

A Different Birthday
Posted in Uncategorized on February 9, 2009 | 5 Comments »
While we’re in Finca Esquena, I’ll be celebrating my 30th birthday. It will no doubt be a different birthday for me. I was thinking about how I celebrated my 20th birthday. All I remember is that a group of friends came to my dorm room and surprised me. At that time, I had no idea [...]
Traveling as Three
Posted in Uncategorized on February 3, 2009 | Leave a Comment »
We are getting ready to head out on our first community trip as a family of three. We will spend about three weeks in Finca Esquena, the community we have visited and written about before. So we will be out of touch for the next three weeks, but I have written a few blogs that [...]
Author of Our Faith

“…fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…” Hebrews 12:2 (NASB)
I have been thinking about Jesus as the author of our faith a lot today. I love books and having tried my hand at writing a few times, I have a great respect for authors who can create a story that [...]
